Park Overview
Dr. T.F. Carter Midtown Park is located along the abandoned railroad track at the intersection of Park Street and Mill Street near the Post Office. The park has one tennis court, a basketball court, swings, play gym and a covered pavilion for parties. The site has a gravel, unmarked parking lot.
Improvement Opportunities
Provide accessible parking and access to park components to meet ADA requirements.
Upgrade equipment and safety surfaces to meet current playground standards.
Investment in more play features to increase usage for varying age groups and individuals with disabilities.
The tennis courts need to be resurfaced and the netting replaced. If the courts are not used by the public on a regular basis, the city could consider providing an alternate use by creating a pickleball court. Note: The United States Tennis Association provides grant funding to rehab community courts especially if a community tennis program begins in the area.
Install a pet waste station with disposable bags and trash can as an simple improvement that will help keep the area clean.
The basketball court should be re-coated and relined.
