Park Overview
The Little Tunnel is a unique historic structure for the City of Westmoreland to feature for the community. In the early days of the City, the railroad was an effective means of commercial transportation; however, on December 10, 1976, the Louisville and Nashville railroad closed the tracks running from Gallatin to Westmoreland ending this way of transportation to the city.
The famed “Little Tunnel”, which is the shortest listed tunnel in the world (listed on the National Register of Historic Places), remains a part of the local landscape.
(*) The Tennessee Department of Health is providing funding to local governments for the creation of locally built environments “to protect, promote, and improve the health and prosperity of all Tennessee.” The City of Westmoreland submitted the second stage of an application to TDOH under the RFA # 34301- 17623.
